About Harry Sphynx Home — Our Story, Our Family, Our Passion

Getting to know the people behind the paws.

Every great story has a beginning, and ours started with a cat named Duchess.

It was over 15 years ago when my wife and I first brought home our very first Sphynx cat. We had done our research — or so we thought — but nothing truly prepares you for the experience of sharing your life with a Sphynx. Within the first week, Duchess had completely rearranged the emotional furniture of our household. She was loud, opinionated, wildly affectionate, and absolutely convinced that she was the most important being in any room she occupied. She was right, of course. We were smitten.

It didn’t take long before we realized we wanted to share this breed with the world. Not because we saw a business opportunity, but because we genuinely believed — and still believe — that the right Sphynx kitten in the right home has the power to change someone’s life. We’ve seen it happen more times than we can count. And that belief is what Harry Sphynx Home is built on.

A Real Home. A Real Family.

We want to be very transparent about who we are and how we operate, because we know that when you’re looking for a kitten, the “behind the scenes” matters just as much as the kitten itself.

Harry Sphynx Home is not a large-scale commercial breeding operation. We are a family — my wife, myself, our children, and our cats — operating out of our personal home. Our breeding cats are not kept in cages or isolated rooms. They sleep in our beds, eat in our kitchen, and spend their days curled up on the couch or perched on cat trees watching squirrels out the window. This isn’t a facility. It’s a home.

Our house is specifically set up to be safe, comfortable, and enriching for our cats. We have dedicated cat-safe spaces throughout the home — climbing structures, cozy hideaways, window perches, and interactive play areas — but the cats are free to roam and engage with the whole family on their own terms. The environment is kept immaculately clean. Litter boxes are scooped multiple times daily, surfaces are regularly sanitized, and bedding is washed frequently. We are very serious about hygiene, not just for the health of our cats but out of respect for the families who will eventually bring our kittens home.

We also maintain a smoke-free, pet-safe household. No harsh chemicals. No toxic plants. No candles or diffusers with essential oils that can be harmful to cats. Every single decision we make about our home environment is filtered through the lens of “is this safe for our cats?” — because when you live with a species as warm-seeking and curious as the Sphynx, cutting corners simply isn’t an option.

Our Breeding Philosophy

We operate a small, carefully managed breeding program. We believe strongly that quality always wins over quantity. We limit the number of litters we raise each year specifically so that each kitten receives the individual attention, socialization, and care that sets them up for a lifetime of health and happiness.

Our breeding cats are health-tested and carefully selected for temperament, structure, and genetic diversity. We screen for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is a heritable heart condition that can affect the Sphynx breed, as well as other relevant health markers. We are committed to responsible breeding practices and to improving the breed with every generation.

We are registered breeders and maintain breed records with recognized cat registries. All of our kittens are registered, and we are happy to provide documentation upon request.

We do not overbreed our females. Each of our queens is given ample recovery time between litters, and they are retired from breeding at an appropriate age and either kept by us as beloved pets or placed in carefully selected pet homes. Our males are equally well-cared-for, given proper space, stimulation, and affection.

Our Commitment 🌟

Health First: Every kitten receives age-appropriate vaccinations, multiple veterinary examinations, and is thoroughly health-screened before leaving my care. Our breeding cats undergo genetic testing to minimize hereditary health issues.

Lifetime Support: When you adopt from us, you’re joining a community. We’re available for the lifetime of your cat to answer questions, provide guidance, or just celebrate your Sphynx’s antics with someone who understands.

Ethical Breeding: We follow responsible breeding practices, including limiting the number of litters, proper spacing between pregnancies, and retiring breeding cats to loving homes when appropriate.

Education: We’re dedicated to educating new owners about Sphynxs’ unique needs, personalities, and care requirements to ensure successful, lasting matches.

Transparency: We welcome questions about my breeding program, health testing, and cattery practices. Openness builds trust and ensures the best outcomes for both kittens and families.
